Smithfield, N.C.—Two cadets from the Johnston County Cadet Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, have successfully completed the annual N.C. Wing CAP Encampment this week, which was held this year at Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, N.C. Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Gregory Morris and Cadet Airman First Class Wesley Woodard attended the week-long activity, which is a requirement of the CAP Cadet Program, and must be successfully completed before a cadet can be promoted to c/2nd

Lieutenant and receive the General Billy Mitchell Award. For the first time this year, the North Carolina Wing hosted encampment attendees from the National Capitol Wing, which encompasses the entire District of Columbia area. c/CMSgt Morris is the son of David and Jennifer Morris of Clayton and attends the Johnston County Early College Program, and is entering the tenth grade. c/Airman First Class Woodard is the son of Randall and Laura Woodard of Princeton and is currently home-schooled at the sixth grade level. Activities during this year’s encampment included: Drill and Ceremonies,

Physical Fitness, the Jump Tower, Self Defense, Museum and aircraft tours including the new and controversial V-22 Osprey, and various base facilities tours including flight simulators. A particular highlight of the tours was the opportunity to climb aboard and tour an actual M1A1 Abrams tank, and the new MRAP or Mine Resistant Ambush Protected truck. The Johnston County Cadet Squadron meets Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Johnston County Airport.
