The budget proposed by the General Assembly includes a discretionary cut of approximately 225 million dollars for the public schools of North Carolina. This equates to nearly $4.6 million in cuts for Johnston County Schools which translate into a reduction of funding for non-instructional support, technology, and Central Office administration. .

These discretionary cuts resulted in a reduction of 133 staff members. However, these reductions were planned for early in the budgeting process and all have been absorbed through normal attrition (retirements and resignations), Fortunately, there will be no reduction in employment of Johnston County Schools’ staff.
