The North Carolina Arts Council and the Johnston County Arts Council invite all Johnston County high school students to become a part of Poetry Out Loud. High school English and Theatre Arts teachers may register for Poetry Out Loud through Friday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. Online registration is available at www.ncarts.org/poetryoutloud.

Students may choose from an amazing selection of poems that can be found at www.ncarts.org/poetryoutloud, along with additional information about the project. Poetry out Loud is open to all high schools: public, private and home schools.

This year, across North Carolina, high school students will be memorizing poetry to recite for friends, family, teachers and total strangers as a part of this national poetry recitation competition.

Poetry Out Loud is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation and the North Carolina Arts Council.

Feel free to contact Mimi Herman, North Carolina Poetry Out Loud Coordinator, with any questions, ideas or success stories at mimiherman@aol.com.
