Mt. Zion UMC Golf Tournament Golfers are invited to participate in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church’s Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, Oct. 9 at Reedy Creek Golf Course. This four person captain’s choice team tournament will begin at noon with a shotgun start. There will be a chance at a $100,000 shootout and golfers will have the opportunity to win $10,000 for a hole in one. Prizes will be flighted. Door prizes will be given out and prizes will be awarded in closest to pin, longest drive, and putting contests. Entry fee is $60 per person and includes golf, cart use, refreshments and a meal. Fundraiser yard sale for local family Life Community Church in Clayton (550-0523) will be hosting a community yard sale to benefit the Coye Pendergrass family. Coye is a self-employed carpenter with a wife and two children. He was helping a friend on Labor Day and fell 20 feet out of a tree. He has been badly broken up, has had three surgeries, lost a kidney and his spleen, and is on and off a respirator currently. He's at Wake Med and has been since Sept. 7. Bills are mounting for this family. Family Fun Day Clyde’s Chapel Baptist Church near Wendell will host a variety of free activities Saturday, Oct. 10, on “Family Fun Day” for the eastern Wake/western Johnston County area. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. children can play on inflatables, enjoy a petting zoo, take a pony ride, have their faces painted and participate in many games at the church on Buffalo Road near the Archer Lodge community. Local emergency personnel will also be on hand with vehicles for the children to see. Free food will include hot dogs and snow cones. American Legion Post 116 Oktoberfest Celebration Everyone’s invited to our 1st Oktoberfest Celebration at the American legion Post 116 at 6400 Johnson Pond Rd in Fuquay-Varina on Saturday, Oct. 10 starting at 3:30 p.m. A souvenir mug, German music, lots of Brats, Kielbasa and beer will be included in you admission. So, dress up in you favorite hat, lederhosen, dermal or fancy Bavarian outfit. If you have any German memorabilia, pictures or memories you want to share bring them along, too! Arboretum trip to Duke Gardens The Arboretum at Johnston Community College is planning a tour of the Sarah P. Duke Asian Gardens in Durham on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The group will depart from the Arboretum at 8 a.m. and return by 5:30 p.m. The event will also include a lecture about Project SEEDS and tour of the garden with Pam Beck of Durham. ‘Hee-Haw Salute’ at Benson Little Theatre Come on down to “Kornfield Kounty” as the Benson Little Theatre presents “Hee Haw Salute.” It is going to be the show of the season! “Hee Haw” is coming to Benson as a tribute to the original variety show and is written and directed by Richard Davis. This was the last of the successful variety shows on TV and by far the most successful country music show on television. Golf Tournament to benefit Cleveland Wildcats The 2009 Cleveland Wildcats Golf Classic will be held on Friday, Nov. 13 at Reedy Creek Golf Course. The day will begin at 11 a.m. with registration, followed by a 12 p.m. Shotgun start. A catered dinner will round out the day at 5 p.m. Players may enter individually or as a team. Sponsors are also being accepted. Entries must be mailed in by Nov. 6, but team entries will be accepted up to the tournament date provided there is room.
