On Saturday the West Johnston Cross Country Teams Competed in the 35th edition of the Wendy's Cross Country Invitational, held annually at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. The meet featured 95 high schools from 7 states and 3,800 high school athletes. The Wildcats cross country teams rewrote the school record books on Saturday, producing a staggering number of all time top ten performances on both the girls and boys side.
The Wildcat boys captured 1st place the team championship with a dominating performance, defeating 3A # 1 ranked Chapel Hill High School and Defending Virginia 3A State Champions Oakton High School. Their team score of 113 points beat out Oakton who scored 128 and Chapel Hill, who scored 148.
The girls team finished an outstanding 4th in the team standings, defeating several top 10 ranked teams from North Carolina and South Carolina!
The JV races also were a tremendous success for the Wildcat XC teams, C. Schoeneman and B. Watson both recorded personal best times and were top 10 finishers in their respective races. Junior R. Judd led the junior varsity girls, racing to a personal best time of 22:06. A. Nikas, I. Pena, and K. Green also had standouting races for the Lady Wildcats.
The Wildcats will return to action this Wednesday at home Against SSS and Friday Travel to Orlando for the Walt Disney World Cross Country Invitational. Great Job Wildcat Cross Country!
