State Fair
There’s still time to experience “A Whole Lotta Happy” at this year’s state fair. The fair runs through Oct. 25, so head on over to the fairgrounds to enjoy fun for the whole family, including midway rides and games, Kiddieland Fun Park and plenty of exhibits. And don’t forget to enjoy fair staples like funnel cake, turkey legs and the newest addition to the menu – chocolate covered bacon. House of Horrors
Come on out to the 4th Annual House of Horrors! There’s still plenty of time to get scared, with haunted house dates on Oct. 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31. The house will run from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night. The House of Horrors is located on Hwy 42 East, on the right, approximately 1/2 mile past the Old Stage Road intersection. There is a large sign at the entrance drive. We are convenient to Clayton, Garner, Raleigh, Fuquay-Varina, and Angier. Adults are $10, kids 12 and under are $5.
Reins from Above Fallabration
RFA will be hosting its 3rd annual Fallabration on Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. There will be BBQ for $7, wagon rides, kids games, a DJ, face painting and a yard sale. Smith’s Nursery Fall Festival
The first annual Smith's Nursery Fall Festival is a community supported event. It will be a day of food and fun for the entire family. Hayrides and Pumpkin Picking will be available all day as well as the millet maze, hiking trails, goat walk, and fishing ponds. Music will be provided throughout the day by Drifting River Bluegrass Band and New Heritage: Country, Folk and Old Time Rock & Roll. The kids will love the Pumpkin Patch Tales: Frightfully Funny Stories by Claire Ramsey, followed by a Costume Contest for all ages (adults welcome)! The entire family can participate in the Team Relay Races and Pumpkin Carving Contests (bring your pre-carved pumpkins). Other activities will include face painting, a fire truck demonstration, pumpkin painting, and much more! The cost is $5 per person.
Ghost Walk
The fifth annual Ghost Walk through Smithfield's Riverside Cemetery is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Small groups will be guided through the cemetery grounds where they will encounter re-enactors portraying notable persons buried thereabouts over the past two centuries. The tours begin at the corner of South Second and Church streets near St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students in grades K-12 (no charge for preschoolers). Fall Fest
The public is invited to shop for gifts and other items at Fall Fest, a crafts fair sponsored annually by Johnston Health at the Johnston Medical Mall in Smithfield. GCCC Trunk or Treat
The Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Cleveland Fire Department will be hosting the 1st Annual Trunk or Treat on Friday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. located on Cleveland Road across from the JCC Campus. Cleveland Fire Department will be serving hot dogs donated by Carolina Packers. Goblins in the Park
Celebrate Halloween at Lake Benson Park with this free fall event! There will be crafts, carnival games with prizes, hay rides, a haunted trail and costume contest. The costume contest will begin at 7 p.m. sharp! Age groups are as follows: 2 & under, 3-5, 6-9, 10-18. Costumed children (12 and under) escorted by an adult are invited to trick-or-treat at participating stores at Carolina Premium Outlets on Oct. 31. Look for the pumpkin sign in the window of participating stores from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Four Oaks Oaktober Fest
Four Oaks Oaktober Fest 2009 will be held Oct. 31 beginning at 6 a.m. with a town wide yard sale. There will be live entertainment, rides, games, contests, a car and tractor show, and many food and craft vendors. Come out for a fun filled day! The event will be held in downtown Four Oaks.
Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat in the McGee’s Crossroads community at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Oct. 31 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. Come out for candy, games, and safe Halloween fun.
Fall-oween Festival

Fall Heritage Day
The Tobacco Farm Life Museum will have Fall Heritage Day on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. There will be living history demonstrations, heritage arts, children's games, antique cars and tractors, and much more. There will be a Holiday Shopping Spree at the Johnston Medical Mall sponsored by the Smithfield Junior Woman's Club, on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be vendors, live entertainment, and Santa will be available for pictures from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The Fall Fruit & Nut Tree Sale will be held now through Friday, Nov. 13 at the Johnston County Cooperative Extension Service. Plants will be available for pick up on Friday, Dec. 11 between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Pecan trees will be ready for pick up on Friday, Jan. 29.
