Upcoming Continuing Education classes at JCC’s Cleveland Center

Johnston Community College’s Cleveland Center will offer the following classes beginning in January. For information on how to preregister, please call the Cleveland Center at 919-989-2128 or the registration office at 919-209-2168. Preregistration is required. Space is limited. Textbooks, if required, can be purchased at the main campus in Smithfield.

Senior citizens age 65 or older do not pay registration fees for classes unless the classes are self-supporting (denoted by *SS).

Organizing Your Home (*SS)

The class will meet on Mondays, Jan. 4 –25 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost of the class is $20. A spiral notebook will be needed for class.

Computer Initiation and the Internet-Slow Paced

The class will meet on Tuesdays, Jan. 5 – Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost of the class is $68.

Medical Terminology

The class will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 11 - March 8 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost of the class is $125. The purchase of a textbook is required. A medical dictionary is strongly recommended.

Conversational Spanish III for Everyday Use (*SS)

The class will meet on Wednesdays, Jan. 13 – March 17 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost of the class is $115. The book costs approximately $25.

You Can Learn to Paint! (*SS)

The class will meet on Wednesdays, Jan. 13 - March 17 from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost of the class is $70. Supplies will be discussed in the first class.

Windows Vista & Keyboarding

The class will meet on Thursdays, Jan. 14 - March 4 from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost of the class is $68. Textbook purchase is optional.

Introduction to Sign Language (*SS)

The class will meet on Thursdays, Jan. 14 - April 1 from 6 – 8 p.m. The cost of the class is $65. The book costs approximately $15.

Explore Your Creativity in Acrylics or Oils (*SS)

The class will meet on Thursdays, Jan. 14 – Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost of the class is $35. Students can call the Cleveland Center at 919-989-2128 for a materials list.

Taking Watercolor Lightly (*SS)

The class will meet on Tuesdays, Jan. 19 - March 23 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost of the class is $95. Materials needed are paints, paper, brushes, pencils, erasers, liquid mask, water container, absorbent cloth, tape and scissors.

Basic Drawing (*SS)

The class will meet on Tuesdays, Jan. 19 - March 23 from 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. The cost of the class is $95. Materials needed are paper, pencils, erasers, tape, tracing paper, ruler, sketchbook and scissors.

Robert’s Rules of Order and Meeting Management

This free seminar will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Call Rosa Andrews at 919-209-2015 to register.

Basic Hair Color Theory

The class will meet on Monday, Jan. 25 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The cost of the class is $50. Contact Jackie Seare at 919-209-2595 for more information.

Notary Public

The class will meet on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 25-26 from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost of the class is $65. The book costs approximately $28.

Conversational Spanish I

The class will meet on Mondays, Jan. 25 - March 29 from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost of the class is $120. The book costs approximately $25.

Basic Programming with C++

The class will meet on Mondays, Jan. 25 - March 15 from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost of the class is $68. The purchase of a textbook and USB flash drive is required.

Fearless Hair Color Correction

The class will meet on Monday, Jan. 25 from 1:15 - 5:15 p.m. The cost of the class is $50. Contact Jackie Seare at 919-209-2595 for more information.

Conversational Spanish II

The class will meet on Tuesdays, Jan. 26 - March 30 from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost of the class is $120. The book costs approximately $25.

Important information about Continuing Education course fees for seniors

Senior citizens age 65 or older who are qualified as legal residents of North Carolina do not pay registration fees for up to 96 contact hours of occupational instruction per academic semester. This does not include self-supporting courses. Senior citizens are required to submit a registration form, to pay any required technology fees, and to buy any required supplies or textbooks.
