Smithfield, N.C.- Five cadets of the Johnston County Cadet Squadron received promotions during the squadron's weekly meeting. Cadet Captain Joshua Rose, Cadet Commander, performed the promotions. Cadet Nicholas Revels was promoted to Cadet Major; cadet Wesley Woodard was promoted to Cadet Senior Airman; cadet Gregory Morris was promoted to Cadet Second Leutenant; and cadets Conner McFalls and Latofat Mirzakhmedova were promoted to Cadet Airman. In order to receive the promotions, all five cadets successfully completed comprehensive written exams on leadership and aerospace education, as well as a comprehensive physical fitness exam. Civil Air Patrol's Cadet Program is a community based leadership program similar to Junior ROTC programs found in many schools. The program is recognized by multiple military services, offering increased rank for recruits completing Basic Training, and who have achieved certain milestone awards in the CAP Cadet program. Currently, the are 24,000 teenagers enrolled in the CAP Cadet Program nationally. The Civil Air Patrol is the civilian, volunteer auxiliary of the United States Air Force, and was formed December 1, 1941 providing vital services for the nation's defense during World War II. Today, the Civil Air Patrol conducts search missions for missing aircraft and persons, provides emergency disaster support in conjunction with other relief organizations, encourages and fosters civil aviation in local communities through adult and youth aerospace education programs, and provides a comprehensive cadet leadership program.
