For the past several years, Johnston County Schools’ administrators have participated in seminars devoted to understanding, implementing, and enhancing leadership. One of the books read and discussed is Good to Great by Jim Collins. In this book, Mr. Collins advocates for making sure you have the right people in the right seats in your organization. He asserts that people are not an organizations most important asset. The right people are. The Employee of the Month program will recognize those who are helping us move from Good to Great!

Mr. Barry Godwin, a seventh grade social studies teacher at McGee’s Crossroads Middle, was nominated by Kim Anderson. Ms. Anderson is the parent of a student in Mr. Godwin’s classroom. Below is the nomination she submitted:

“My son, Taylor Anderson entered the Crabtree Valley Mall Teacher Appreciation Contest with MIX 101.5. He wrote about Mr. Godwin, who was chosen as one of the 10 finalists. We went to Crabtree Valley Mall on Sunday for the finale. Unfortunately, Mr. Godwin and my son weren't chosen as winners but it was a great accomplishment to be in the top 10. It says a lot that a 7th grader would want to enter his teacher in this contest. Mr. Godwin's a great teacher. He's a positive influence on Taylor and other students. Every day Taylor comes home and shares things he's learning in Mr. Godwin's class. Everything he talks about concerning Mr. Godwin is always positive. So many times I hear negative things about school and it's nice to finally hear positive things. I truly appreciate Mr. Godwin and what he's done for my son. He's an awesome teacher and deserves to be recognized for his efforts.”

Congratulations, Mr. Godwin!
