After hosting their own successful motorcycle rides for charity, a local business and civic group are joining forces for a good cause. All Insurance Services and Crossroads Civitan Club will host Bikers for Kids on May 8.

The ride, which will be held rain or shine, will be a Poker Run meandering through the back roads of Johnston County.

“We’re going to be riding 100 miles of mostly country roads, enjoying the scenery of Johnston County,” said Summer Hamrick of All Insurance Services. “It’s just a great group of people who are coming together for a good cause.”

The money raised from the event will be going to benefit local families and special needs children for the holidays. This is a cause close to the hearts of those in the Civitan Club. Last year’s Civitan-hosted Poker Run helped provide 20 seniors with a Thanksgiving feast, filled 160 stockings full of goodies for children with special needs and sponsored five families for Christmas.

For Summer, this is a worthy cause that she contributed to over the holidays and wanted to repeat for the ride.

“I delivered stockings full of toys over Christmas to special needs kids in the area,” she said. “Just having that one stocking made them so happy. It’s the best feeling to know you’re helping other families out during a hard time of year and contributing to their happiness.”

The ride hosted by All Insurance Services last year saw 233 bikers hit the road and raised $8,000 for March of Dimes. This year, they’re hoping for at least 300 bikes. The event organizers say they welcome individuals and clubs, and all bikes are welcome, from sports bikes to cruisers and Harleys.

“It’s like a rolling bike show, with everything from custom bikes to classics,” said Bruce Hamrick of All Insurance Services.

Both Bruce and Summer, who are motorcycle enthusiasts, will be riding in the event.

“The best feeling in hosting a ride is that moment when everyone starts their engines,” said Summer. “It’s a very exciting place to be, and you get a chance to meet so many different people.”

Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Ray Price Harley-Davidson. The escorted ride will begin at 1 p.m. and make stops at Dr. Adam Seay’s chiropractic office in Cleveland, then move on to the Bentonville Battlefield and Bill Drake’s Western Town before ending up at the Cleveland Draft House for a rally. The rally, which will begin around 4:30 p.m., is open to the community and will feature a bounce house, fire truck, barbecue plates and music from TaylorMade DJ Services.

The cost is $25 per rider and $15 per passenger. Register early and the cost is $20 and $10, respectively. Wild cards are $5. Participation includes a barbecue plate at the rally and a T-shirt.

Raffle tickets will also be available to purchase for $1 a ticket. Items being raffled off include a helmet signed by the Carolina Hurricanes, a helmet signed by Ray Price and a helmet signed by various comedians.

Bikers for Christ, an organization that helps raise money for bikers downed, will also be on hand selling tickets to the Coca-Cola 500.

Even those who aren’t bikers can still get involved. The event organizers are accepting sponsorships from local businesses and individuals, as well as volunteers to help out on the day of the event. There are three levels of sponsorship, and the deadline for sponsors is April 19.
