instruction at Johnston Community College.
Daughtry, a native of Wayne County, has worked at JCC for 13
years. Her previous positions include department chair of the
business technology programs and financial aid director. She got
her start in the community college system at Wayne Community
College in the financial aid department.
“Dee Dee is an exceptional leader, has a breadth of knowledge,
and is a good fit for JCC,” said JCC President David Johnson. “I
am pleased to have someone of her caliber join the College’s
senior leadership team as JCC strives to better serve our community and state as a leader
in community college education.”
JCC is experiencing unprecedented student enrollment and Daughtry said she is excited
about the challenges ahead. “This is my dream job,” Daughtry said. “I’m a firm believer
in community colleges. Even though I have advanced degrees, there’s not a day that goes
by that I don’t use the information I learned in my two-year degree.”
Daughtry said community colleges have a unique ability to provide educational
opportunities for all people. “I remember every single instructor I had and it’s important
that we continue to give that individual attention to our students,” she said. “We have a
tremendous ability to take students where they are and develop them and that is so
inspiring to me.”
Daughtry earned her associate’s degree from Wayne Community College, her bachelor’s
from Mount Olive College and her master’s from Campbell University. She is a graduate
of the North Carolina Community College Leadership Program and Leadership Johnston.
She is a member of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges as well
as N.C. Community College Instructional Administrators.
She and her husband, Bryan, have three sons, Russ, Michael, and Owen. They reside in
the Brogden community of Johnston County.
