Three teams from McGee’s Crossroads Middle School will be advancing to the State Envirothon Competition later this month. These teams are part of the top seven scoring teams from the 11-county region of Soil and Water Conservation Districts which includes Wake, Durham, Wilson, Nash, Franklin, Edgecombe, Halifax, Vance, Granville, Warren and Johnston. The State Envirothon Competition is a two-day event held at Cedarock Park in Alamance County. For the past two years, the West Johnston High School team, the Sequoias, has successfully represented NC in the weeklong competition where they placed 8th in 2008 and 2nd in 2009. Johnston County will have two high school teams and three middle school teams who will participate at the State event. The Envirothon Program is North America’s largest environmental education competition where five-member teams of students compete in their knowledge of natural resources.
