Ask-A-Lawyer Program scheduled for April 30 On Friday, April 30, volunteer lawyers from the Johnston County Bar Association will hold public “Ask-A-Lawyer” day at the atrium area of the Johnston County Courthouse in Smithfield from noon until 4 p.m. During this event, individuals with questions about legal issues or the legal system in general will be able to talk with lawyers on a one-on-one basis. All members of the general public are invited and encouraged to come to the event with any questions they may have. Johnston County Arts Council Seeks Board of Directors The nominating committee of the Johnston County Arts Council is currently accepting nominations for service as a member of the Board of Directors. All director terms are for three years and you may not serve more than two consecutive terms. All persons chosen as directors of the Council shall be individuals who are representative of the demographic makeup of Johnston County, by virtue of their residence in the area, their involvement in business, art, science or other charitable organization or other agency operating in the county, or other interest in the welfare of the community. The slate of officers and new board members will be installed at the Annual Membership Meeting held in mid-May. JCC Drama Camp auditions are May 5 Johnston Community College will hold auditions for this summer’s Drama Camp at 7 p.m. on May 5 in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium on the main campus in Smithfield. The camp will be held July 12-24. The JCC Drama Camp is an intensive hands-on approach to the art of theatre for individuals age 12-19. The students will design and produce a theatrical production during the two-week camp. Students can participate as an actor or as a stage technician. All participants will be required to attend the auditions on May 5. Actors should plan a 2-3 minute audition piece to demonstrate their talents in singing, dancing, and/or monologue. Technicians should plan on an interview the same day as auditions. The cost of the camp is $200. All camp activities will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium. Color Me Healthy workshop Debbie Stroud of the County Cooperative Extension Service and Kimetha Elliot of the Johnston County Health Department are teaming up to provide a Color Me Healthy workshop on Saturday, May 15 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The workshop will take place at the Johnston County Agricultural Center Auditorium located at 2736 NC 210 Hwy, Smithfield NC 27577. HealthQuest starts walk fitness program Looking for a safe, cool place to walk? HealthQuest is starting a program at the Johnston Medical Mall to encourage people to walk for their health. The wellness center is offering discounts, gifts and other incentives quarterly to mall walkers who complete the most laps. Participants will also get invitations to a quarterly breakfast, monthly blood pressure screenings and other special events. The mall is open from 5:30 a.m. till 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 5:30 a.m. till 8 p.m. Friday. Weekend hours are from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1 till 5 p.m. on Sunday. Ava Gardner Museum seeks marketing intern The Ava Gardner Museum seeks a Marketing Intern to assist in the promotion of the annual Ava Gardner Festival. The duration of the internship will be 15 hours a week for eight weeks beginning in June 2010 and pays a $500 stipend. Any travel done by the intern on behalf of the Museum will be reimbursed at the IRS Standard Mileage Rate. This position is made possible through a grant from the North Carolina Museums Council. The prospective intern should be a self-starter with creativity, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. The intern should also have an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as graphic design programs such as Adobe’s InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. In the past, the Ava Gardner Museum has employed a variety of marketing strategies to promote the Ava Gardner Festival and the marketing intern will participate in planning meetings in regards to choosing strategies and design of promotional literature and advertising. Working closely with the Executive Director, the intern will develop and implement the festival marketing campaign.
