Two students at Johnston Community College are the recipients of Johnston County Arts Council scholarships.

In partnership with Johnston Community College and the JCC Foundation, JCAC awards scholarships annually to assist local students preparing for a career in the arts field. Stephanie Morales of Four Oaks and Stephanie Russell of Clayton are the 2010 recipients.

Morales will graduate with an associate’s degree in fine art in May and hopes to one day teach art in high schools. “Without this scholarship, I wouldn’t have been to buy books and supplies and I probably would have had to skip a semester so I am very thankful for this opportunity.”

Morales said she decided to pursue her degree in art after her high school art teacher recommended JCC. “The instructors here are very open and they work really hard to help you succeed,” she said.
