Student Support Services at Johnston Community College celebrated its annual TRiO Day recently and presented awards to three outstanding students.
At JCC, Student Support Services (SSS) is a department in the division of Student Services that counsels and tutors students as well as offers study skills workshops, financial aid planning, and college transfer assistance.
Currently, SSS serves approximately 160 students, most of whom are first-generation, low-income college students. Initially funded in 2001, SSS is a federally-funded program through the U.S. Department of Education.
This year’s outstanding TRiO students are Tarsha Johnson of Selma, Brandy Robertson of Smithfield, and Tammy Womack of Selma. All were recognized for their outstanding academics and leadership skills.
