Smithfield, NC – The first annual Learn to Fly Day is behind held across America on May 15 at over 300 flight schools and organizations. They will offer tours of flight schools, a presentation that answers the mysteries of obtaining a sport, commercial, or private pilot’s license; and creating endless possibilities and options in order to pursue a new hobby or career in aviation.

JNX Flight LLC is opening its doors on May 15. The seminar will consist of a 30 to 40 minute information session on learning to fly along with a tour of their school and time to talk with flight instructors and pilots.

During this Great Recession, people have cut back and put their interests on the backburner as they tried to work through it. There is a general stereotype that flying an airplane is only for the rich. A new type of pilot certificate called Sport Pilot has changed the traditional notion that one must spend a fortune to be a pilot. Earning this certificate can cost as little as $3500 and airplanes are easily available for rent, as most pilots do not own their own airplane and flying clubs and flight schools exist to allow pilots to own a share of a plane, thereby reducing the cost of flying.

One man’s dream of becoming a pilot was realized after he discovered the Sport Pilot certificate. A medical condition that caused Michael Combs to technically die barred him for garnering a private or commercial pilot’s license. With a renewed life and a drive to achieve his dream after his life was almost taken from him, Combs earned his Sport Pilot certificate and on April 8 he took off from Salina, KS, making 135 stops in all 50 states over 40 days, setting at least six world records in the most technologically advanced light sport aircraft from Remos. Called the Flight for the Human Spirit, Michael Combs wants to inspire people to follow their dreams, even if they’re beyond the sky.
