Johnston Community College has received a $191,156 grant for energy efficiency improvements in four buildings on campus.

The grant is part of $5.4 million in federal Recovery Act funding for energy efficiency block grants awarded to help 38 public school systems and community colleges save on utility and fuel bills and create jobs.

The funds will pay to re-commission heating and air conditioning systems in Arts, Elsee, Tart, and Wilson buildings on the main campus in Smithfield as well as install more energy efficient lighting in various buildings.

The grants program is administered by the North Carolina Energy Office, part of the state’s Department of Commerce, to encourage energy conservation and economic investment in counties, municipalities, community colleges and public schools.
