For the past several years, Johnston County Schools administrators have participated in seminars devoted to understanding, implementing, and enhancing leadership. One of the books read and discussed is Good to Great by Jim Collins. In this book, Mr. Collins advocates for making sure you have the right people in the right seats in your organization. He asserts that people are not an organization’s most important asset. The right people are. The Employee of the Month program is a monthly program that the Human Resources Department uses to

recognize employees who demonstrates the qualities of a caring and dedicated individual.

This month, the award goes to Carolyn Barker, Office Support at Polenta Elementary.

Her nomination form reads:

Carolyn is the type of person who goes above and beyond for her fellow co-workers. Most days she is standing for 7 hours making copies, answering phones, and anything else someone may ask of her (did I mention she also drives a bus) Never once have I heard her complain, she enjoys her job and she gets pleasure out of helping others. Always wearing a smile, and willing to help, would be how I would describe Carolyn. Sometimes she jokes and says, "I’m just a copy girl!" but to me and others she is so much more, and I want her to know how much we all appreciate her and everything that she does. So when making your decision on whom to pick for employee of the month, know she is my employee of the month pick everyday!
