Economic and workforce development staff at Johnston Community College this summer teamed up with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission to offer Project WILD and Aquatic WILD, workshops that teach conservation principles for teacher renewal certification.

Certified and retired teachers, teacher assistants, and college students studying education, attended the free, six-hour workshops held at the Workforce Development Center in Clayton.

The workshop is one of the most widely used conservation and environmental education programs among educators of students in kindergarten through high school. It is based on the premise that young people and educators have a vital interest in learning about our natural world.

JCC also offers teacher renewal courses in Spanish, sign language, and other topics. The next workshop is The Holocaust and Contemporary Genocide and will be held Aug. 2-5 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Workforce Development Center in Clayton.

For more information about teacher renewal course offerings, please contact Heidi Harris at 919.209.2594.
