Zaxby’s of Clayton and Smithfield recently made a significant charitable gift to Performing Arts at Johnston Community College. In return, the restaurant will have naming rights for the college’s 2010-11 Concert Series and Country Music Showcase.

Zaxby’s owner Michael Smith said he supports programming at JCC because he values the college’s mission of education and community outreach. Last year, Zaxby’s was the title sponsor of the JCC men’s basketball team.

“Johnston Community College and the JCC Foundation are such great organizations, and we wanted to continue our support of the college this year by being a performing arts sponsor,” Smith said. “The arts are such an important aspect of any community and I’m proud that our local community college has such wonderful performing arts opportunities right here in Smithfield.”

Zaxby’s will also be selling food from its menu at JCC performing arts events, an option JCC Performing Arts Director Ken Mitchell is thrilled about.

“Zaxby’s will be a welcome addition as a major sponsor of our program and as a great addition to our concession offerings,” Mitchell said. “Our mission is to create great experiences and Zaxby’s great food will certainly enhance our audiences’ experience as most families’ leisure time is so limited, now they will be able to make us their one-stop shop for great food and great entertainment.”

JCC will kick off its 2010-11 Performing Arts Series in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium with the Grass Cats on Saturday, Sept. 18. This year’s lineup also includes the popular Oak Ridge Boys on Sunday, Oct. 24.
